about

RAYSHAUN JOHNSON LPC, NCC

As a licensed professional counselor, author, and founder of NuVision Therapy LLC, I bring more than 15 years of experience in community mental health and social service settings throughout Washington, DC. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of the District of Columbia and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Trinity Washington University, and have received extensive training in community-based mental health care, substance use recovery, and the treatment of complex trauma.

In 2019, I founded NuVision Therapy LLC, a private practice grounded in the belief that healing begins with understanding, self-compassion, and meaningful human connection. I specialize in supporting adults, particularly men, Black men, queer men, and first responders, who are navigating depression, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, relationship challenges, and life transitions. My goal is to create a safe, culturally responsive environment where clients can explore their experiences, deepen their self-understanding, and move toward lasting emotional wellness.

Beyond my clinical work, I am the author of The Work of Remaining, my debut book, which reflects my commitment to exploring emotional wellness, self-understanding, and personal growth. I also continue these conversations through my blog, Tales of a Therapist, where I share reflections on self-awareness, personal and relational boundaries, and emotional well-being drawn from clinical observation and professional experience.

Throughout my career, I have been a strong advocate for Black men's mental health, working to increase access to care, encourage emotional wellness, and challenge stigma. This work, alongside my experience serving diverse populations across age, identity, and profession, continues to shape my commitment to culturally responsive, client-centered care.

My clinical approach integrates Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and trauma-informed care. Whether clients are seeking relief from distress, greater emotional balance, or personal growth, I strive to provide thoughtful, client-centered care that honors both the challenges they carry and the strengths they bring into the room. Through NuVision Therapy, I remain committed to helping individuals build healthier relationships with themselves and others while creating space for healing, resilience, and lasting emotional wellness.
