THE WORK OF REMAINING

The Work of Remaining is a hybrid memoir and reflection grounded in clinical insight. Drawing from lived experience and years of therapeutic work, Rayshaun Johnson explores identity, restraint, and the patterns we learn to survive long before we have language for them. This is not a book about fixing what is broken, but about understanding what has been carried, and what it takes to stay present without disappearing.

What You’ll Learn

Readers will learn how many of their behaviors: being quiet, hyper‑aware, accommodating, or restrained—are not simply personality traits, but adaptations shaped by early experiences, and how those patterns continue to operate over time.

Survival Patterns

The book helps readers recognize the difference between surviving without reflection and developing real self‑understanding, inviting them to examine what they’ve carried and what they now have the capacity to question and reshape.

Endurance vs. Understanding

Readers will learn what it means to stay engaged with themselves without disappearing. Moving through relationships, identity, and internal experiences with clarity, boundaries, and intentional presence.
